Steel Plus Network 2012 Annual General Meeting & Conference

Dear Steel Plus Network AGM Attendees,

On behalf of Steel Plus Network Staff and the Board of Managers, I would like to thank all of those who attended our Annual General Meeting in Cancun, Mexico.

The 2012 AGM was an agreeable balance between a much needed break in our Members’ work schedule and an informative and significant sharing of Steel Plus Network’s Financials and Business Plan.  The majority of attendees took the opportunity to stay additional days and the large pool soon acquired its own Ontario region. The well attended Quebec group, of course, always adds fun to the festivities.  We were also pleased with those members from the US who attended and we will be working hard this year to bolster this group and Western Canada as well.

Steel Plus Network was very pleased this year to present final versions of the financials for both SPD and SPN in advance of our meeting. The AGM attendees were also pleased with the new budget and its cost reduction measures and the clearly defined direction of the company.

SPN would like to offer special thanks to Marc Dutil and Sylvie Boulanger for their interesting and informative presentations.  Marc had the difficult job of answering a number of questions, personal and business, as submitted by members and staff and he answered all of them with refreshing candor. We thank Sylvie for her presentation and also for her guidance regarding our best practice sessions.  SPN would also like to thank Larry Rollins for his presentation on behalf of Sherwin Williams – it was not as bad as watching paint dry as he maintained.

SPN staff and members welcomed Joe Kubes (Kubes Steel Ltd.) as the new Chairman for SPN and we look forward to working closely with Joe over the next year to build our network.  Joe is already knee deep in the operations and SPN staff will work hard to ensure he need not go deeper.

We expect that the location and structure of our next AGM will be quite different from this one and will be more accessible to all of our members.  So we encourage all to come and participate in our AGM – we know that you will not regret it.

It remains the goal of SPN to create a network of North America’s best steel fabricators and to create an economic advantage for both supplier and fabricator members alike.  We will be working very aggressively this year to shore up our suppliers and to recruit new members and we will be counting on the help of our members to achieve our goals.

Again, thank you for your attendance. We look forward to seeing you at the next regional meeting.
